'Why we're yet to confirm Hilda Baci's new record

Guinness World Records has clarified why they are yet to confirm Nigeria’s Hilda Baci’s new record for the longest cooking time by an individual.

Recall that the 27-year-old from Akwa Ibom state broke the record on Monday morning, May 15, after surpassing the previous record of 87 hours and 45 minutes set by Lata Tondon of India in 2019.

At the time of filing this report, Hilda Baci has already cooked for over 90 hours.

In response to a Nigerian Twitter user who queried why Guinness World Records is yet to acknowledge Hilda’s new record, they stated that the standard procedure is to review the evidence before confirming a record.

“We’re aware of this amazing record attempt. We need to review all the evidence first before officially confirming a record,” a tweet on GWR official Twitter handle read.

Nigerian dancer Kaffy, who in 2006 led her dance group to break the Guinness Book of Records for “Longest Dance Party” after they danced for 55 hours and 40 minutes, also confirmed that verifying a record may take up to two weeks.

“Yes this is standard procedure ! Even during our own we had to wait for almost two weeks for them to review videos and all records before they confirm. A lot of people attempt and succeed in beating timelines but don’t get verified because of technical errors. It’s not Hilda’s portion IJN!” She wrote.
