Twitter co-founder and CEO, Jack Dorsey, is in Nigeria now

Jack Dorsey — the co-founder and CEO of social media service, Twitter, and mobile payments company, Square — just arrived in Nigeria.

Arriving with other Twitter executives, Dorsey will be in Africa for the whole of November to meet with local entrepreneurs in the continent.

It may be recalled that Dorsey posted a tweet regarding his visit last month — saying Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa are the countries he plans to visit during his time in Africa.

In the tweet is a picture of the billionaire with Ethiopian entrepreneurs — Noel Daniel of venture capital firm, Kudu Ventures, and Getnet Aseffa and Betelhem Dessie, from artificial intelligence research and development company, iCog Labs.

Although his planned visit to Africa was known, his itinerary was a secret until he appeared in Lagos today.

According to a reliable source, Dorsey may meet with some well-known Nigerian entrepreneurs behind closed doors in the coming days, thus giving rise to a number of speculations on why he is really in Nigeria.

One of the many speculations is that Dorsey plans to introduce Square to entrepreneurs and the African market.

Square is best known for its disruptive card payment technology but in recent times, the company seems to be betting big on cryptocurrencies, bitcoin in particular.

A bitcoin fiend himself, Jack has not shied away from sharing Square’s plan to make the cryptocurrency a global currency.

Could this be one of the reasons he is in Africa?
