Three abducted students of the Federal University Gusau in Zamfara State and three construction workers in the institution have been freed from captivity.

According to NTA, the six victims were rescued over the weekend by the Nigerian military.

TORI reported that bandits, last Friday, stormed Sabon Gida village in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State and kidnapped a significant number of students of the University.

An indigene of Sabon Gida village, Abubakar Sani, told PUNCH that the bandits, who were in large numbers, stormed the students’ off-campus residences in the village.

He said the bandits invaded the area around 4:00 a.m. on Friday, where they attacked three students’ hostels, adding that the students abducted were mostly females.

Speaking further, Sani revealed that the bandits only abducted the university students but did not abduct any residents of the village.

He said, “When they arrived at the village, they went straight to the students [off campuses] and started shooting sporadically”.

“They later broke into the campuses and brought a number of students who are mostly females.

“Many of the kidnapped students were females, while other students were able to escape to the bush.”

Also, the bandits, who arrived at the institution on motorcycles, broke into the building where the constitution workers were sleeping and whisked them away.

Speaking to The PUNCH, one of the workers, who gave his name as Ibrahim Mohammed, said the bandits who were on motorcycles arrived at the university in the early hours of Friday.

He said immediately the bandits arrived, they broke into the building where the constitution workers were sleeping and whisked them away.

Mohammad explained that he was able to jump over the window and took to his heels.

He said, “When they broke into the building, they told us to come out and follow them.

“I was looking at the way to escape, then suddenly I jumped over the window, and one of the bandits fired a shot but could not get me.”
