The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has announced a new date for its primary elections ahead of the forthcoming local government polls in the State.

In a statement made available to journalists late Wednesday evening, the APC Publicity Secretary in the state, Olawale Sadare, said that the primary earlier scheduled for this Thursday will now be held on Friday (August 25) and Monday (August 28).

He noted that the primary became necessary as a result of multiple expressions of interest.

“The schedule of the party primary will now be split into two and we have picked this Friday to conduct the exercise in all the Wards and LGAs in both Oyo Central and Oyo North Senatorial districts, while the turn of the 99 Wards and nine local government councils in Oyo South will be Monday next week.

“Reports submitted by the screening committees established that we have competent aspirants in all the 351 Wards and 33 LGAs; this indicates that APC remains the most popular party in the State,” the statement reads.

The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) had fixed April next year for the local government election.

The APC, however, stressed that the slight adjustment in the schedule of its primary for all chairmanship and councilorship aspirants became paramount as it seeks to claim the positions in the state.
