One Arrested As Hoodlums Beat Driver To Death In Plateau

A commercial bus driver has been confirmed dead after he was brutalized by hoodlums suspected to be motorcycle riders in Jos, Plateau State.

Mr. Fwinbe Thomas, said to be in his early 30s, was driving a car on his way home when he mistakenly brushed a motorcycle rider at the Tudun Wada Park area of Jos North Local Government Area and continued driving.

Other commercial motorcycle riders within the vicinity chased after him while calling him a thief. They eventually caught up with him at Domkat Bali Way, Jos South Local Government Area.

They attacked him with heavy stones, dragging him out of his vehicle, and beating him to death despite appeals from people within the vicinity.

The Plateau State Police Command on Thursday, Sept. 28, confirmed the killing.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Julius Alawari, in a statement signed by the spokesman of the Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident, adding that the man was found lying in a pool of his own blood along Tudun Wada Ring Road, Hwolshe in Jos.

The PPRO said, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Okoro Alawari, totally condemns the unlawful killing of one Mr Fwinbe Thomas who was found lying in the pool of his blood along the Tudun Wada Ring Road, Hwolshe, Jos.

“Sequel to the report of the incident by a credible informant on September 25, 2023, around 10:30pm, the police patrol team attached to the Anglo-Jos Division, rushed to the scene of the incident and found the victim lying in the pool of his blood beside a damaged Suzuki Mini Bus with number plate KWK 536 XA.”

The police added that the victim was suspected to have been beaten to death by the hoodlums, suspected to be commercial motorcyclists.

The police, in a message, said one of the suspects that killed the young man had been arrested.
