The owner of Johnny Supermarket and Pharmacy at the Ikenegbu Layout in Owerri, the Imo State capital, John Ugorji, who was reported kidnapped, has been released.

The popular businessman who regained freedom from his abductors on Friday, July 14, exactly two weeks after his abduction, returned to his home and reunited with his family after they paid N25 million ransom.

A source close to his family told DAILY POST, “he showed up this morning. We are glad he survived and came back.”

The source claimed that before releasing him, the captors swindled the family out of a sizeable sum.

“N25 million, changed to dollars, was taken by the kidnappers,” he said.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Ugorji, a knight of the Catholic Church, was abducted as he boarded his jeep to head home after work.

Imo State Police Command Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye, who acknowledged receiving information about the abduction, claimed that police officers arrived after the abductors had whisked their target away, saying the victim’s abandoned jeep was taken to the police station.
