Eight suspects fingered in the attacking and burning of a police patrol vehicle in Katsina State have been arrested.

The incident occurred at Kofar Guga inside Katsina town at about 1:00pm on Monday morning, July 3, 2023, when a team of police from Command’s State Motor Traffic Division (MTD) arrested some persons for violating traffic rules and wanted to take them to the station.

The residents begged for the release of the arrested persons which was turned down and later resulted in a fight and burning of a vehicle.

Spokesperson of the State Police Command,  ASP Sadiq Abubakar, who confirmed the incident on Wednesday, said it arrested eight suspects for aiding the attack on the patrol vehicle.

The PPRO explained that the incident occurred when a commercial motorcycle rider fell to the ground while attempting to escape arrest by men of the Command’s State Motor Traffic Division (MTD) discharging their lawful duty.

“While the suspected motorcyclist was able to escape, his motorcycle was crushed by a passing truck in the process. Consequently, some unscrupulous elements who aided his escape, took advantage of the situation and attacked the Police patrol vehicle,”
