A driver has been confirmed dead after ramming into a stationary truck while trying to avoid being attacked on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The accident reportedly involved one blue Mercedes Benz truck with number plate RBC110XJ and one ash Toyota Sienna car with number plate EKY240HA.

The driver had collided with a commercial motorcyclist riding against the traffic and was scared that he might be attacked, so he sped off, before colliding with a stationary truck along the road, leading to his death.

An eyewitness, Opeyemi Lateef, told Punch, “I was in a bus behind the Sienna car when the car collided with a commercial motorcyclist riding against traffic.

“Maybe he felt he had injured the commercial motorcyclist. Rather than waiting to see the condition of the commercial motorcyclist, the driver zoomed off and eventually collided with a truck in front.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, confirmed the accident to the publication, stating that one person died.

She said, “The accident happened along the Lotto Bus stop around 2.56pm. The vehicles involved are one blue Mercedes Benz truck with number plate RBC110XJ and one ash Toyota Sienna with number plate EKY240HA. Two persons were involved, while one person died.

“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed, which led to the loss of control, and the vehicle rammed into the truck. The remains of the dead victim have been deposited at a morgue in Sagamu.”
