The Abia State government has cancelled the results of Preliminary Test Sessions (PTS) in the state government-owned nursing schools.

The cancellation was announced by the commissioner for information and culture, Okey Kanu, at the government house, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting.

Kanu, who said that a new date would be chosen by the State for the re-taking of the PTS examinations, explained that the students would not pay additional fees to re-take the exam.

The commissioner added that investigations were still ongoing on the matter.

According to him, the committee tasked with investigating the matter met with the aggrieved students and the officials who are connected with the petitions as well as received complaints from all parties.

Two weeks ago, some nursing students protested in Umuahia, Abia State capital, calling for the cancellation of their PTS exam results. They alleged that the examination results released by the nursing authorities were highly manipulated and compromised, with some of them calling for the sack of the Abia State Director of Nursing Service, Mrs Onyeukwu Nwakaego.

Subsequently, Governor Alex Otti set up a committee to investigate the matter. He also asked the complainants to bring the evidence of their allegations to the State government for a thorough investigation. He promised that anyone found wanting would not be spared.
