Mr Harrison Ekeleme, the President-General of Amukpe Community, Sapele Local Government Area Delta State, alongside three others who were abducted last week, have regained freedom.

Ekeleme and the three young men were abducted by armed men along the Warri-Sapele Expressway.

A senior police officer, who pleaded anonymity, told the Vanguard that a team of security men led by SP Harrison Nwabuisi of Sapele Division was closing on the kidnappers’ hideout when they panicked and released four of the hostages along the Sapele-Warri  expressway where they were initially abducted.

In an interview shortly after regaining freedom, Ekeleme, said he was thankful to be back with his family.

“It was a horrific ordeal. The kidnappers seemed familiar with the routes around Warri and neighbouring villages. They were from the Northern part and knew the area well enough to ambush us so easily,” he said.

Ekeleme, who also serves as Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party in Sapele LGA, expressed gratitude to the police and local communities for their efforts to secure his freedom.

“I am overjoyed to be safely back with my family and community. I never lost hope that help was on the way,”
he added.

The Chairman of Sapele Local Government Council, Hon Eugene Inoaghan, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, commended the security forces for their swift response.

He assured residents that maintaining law and order remains a top priority.
