Manchester United brought their pre-season schedule to a close today with a 4-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford.
While the Toffees may not have provided the challenge United were looking for, the thrilling first-half performance will certainly boost confidence ahead of the Premier League opener against Leeds United in a week’s time.
Mason Greenwood gave United an early lead after he capitalised on a dreadful Jordan Pickfoird error. The England goalkeeper spilled the ball after it was nodded back to him by Lucas Digne, allowing Greenwood to steal in and slot home.
Harry Maguire bagged the second five minutes later as he met Luke Shaw’s corner to power a precise header into the top corner.
Bruno Fernandes added a third with a stunning free-kick from distance to cap off a breathtaking display.
The second-half was more of a slog after both sdes made a raft of changes, with Paul Pogba returning for United, but they did find a fourth in the dying moments with Diogo Dalot looping a header into the goal.
