This was contained in a statement signed by the director of Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Adeseye Margaret, and posted on the X handle of Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, on Wednesday, November 1.

The statement reads: “The fire, which was reported 15 minutes into the new month, summoned the concerted efforts of the fire crews from Sari Iganmu, Ajegunle, Ilupeju, and Bolade Stations of the Agency, with the assistance of the Federal Fire Service and LASEMA and the security back-up of the Nigerian Police Force.

“The sawmill market also trades in building materials as the fire rapidly spread because of the combustible materials involved, which include inflammatory wood polish, and given the dryness of the season, however, it met the competency of the firefighters.”

Adeseye stated that no casualties had been reported in this operation. He added that further details would be provided as the operation progresses.

He said that the exact cause of the fire, which is currently in the dampening-down stage, will be determined during the mop-up phase, including property enumeration and cost assessment.
