EPL: Eight clubs Pochettino rejected before accepting Chelsea deal revealed

Former Paris Saint-Germain head coach, Mauricio Pochettino reportedly rejected eight clubs, including Premier League sides Aston Villa, Leeds United and Nottingham Forest, before agreeing to become Chelsea’s next permanent manager from next season.

Journalist, Guillem Balague said Pochettino had been approached by eight European clubs – Aston Villa, Leeds, Forest, Sevilla, Benfica, Athletic Bilbao, Villarreal and Nice since he was sacked by PSG last year.

“He has not been short of offers since leaving Paris but none have ticked as many boxes as Chelsea has, certainly in this second round of negotiations with the club. He was determined to make sure that he made the right choice as to his next employer – and initially turned down Boehly’s Chelsea until he was offered more control,” Balague said in a report for BBC.

“He has received approaches from Benfica, Athletic Bilbao, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest. Sevilla also made contact, as did Villarreal, Nice and Leeds United.”

Pochettino will definitely have a lot of work to do at Chelsea next season, as the Blues will end the season out of European football.

Chelsea currently sits in the 11th position on the Premier League table with 43 points from 35 games.
