With Jolly Nyame, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain sent to jail after being found guilty of diverting N1.64 billion while he served as governor between 1999 to 2007, the internet has remembered how Innocent 2Baba Idibia praised him and other controversial Nigerian political leaders like former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a love song titled, "I Dey Feel Like".

 

2Baba, a father of seven from three different women praised Jolly Nyame briefly in his Grass2Grace music album released under Kennis Music record label in 2006. With Jolly Nyame being convicted of corruption, 2Baba might bite his fingers for using that name to spice up a love song back then.

 

 

It would be recalled that the singer today has become a political activist who almost led a massive protest against the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in 2017 for under-performance. He has continued to become a strong political voice and a de-facto ambassador of the youths in the country.

 

2Baba’s act of praise-singing of Jolly Nyame has been likened to the way other artistes like 9ice, Reminisce, Olu Maintain and others celebrated internet fraud and fraudsters in their music which has compounded the menace of corruption in the Nigerian society.

 

It would be recalled that 2Baba reportedly enjoyed exotic wedding gifts in 2012 from political juggernauts belonging to the corruption-ridden administration of the PDP namely a former senate President David Mark and a former Awka Ibom State governor Godswill Akpabio. Akpabio alone has been accused of defrauding his state of N108 billion during his 8-years as governor.

 

Indirectly, the conviction of Nyame might be a ‘palm oil stain’ on the white garment of 2Baba who might tomorrow be called upon to take a public position with his popularity in the country in the light of a clamour for youth leaders to replace the Gerontocratic administration.

 

Supporters of 2Baba believe the recent conviction of Nyame is not an indictment on 2Baba’s integrity as its just a harmless song where Nyame wasn’t the main focus and its hasn’t been reported that be benefited from the politician financially.
